COATED ABRASIVES is a number of abrasive particles bonded to a plain an flexible
support.
THE COATED FLEXIBLES are composed by BACKING, ADHESIVE and ABRASIVE. Backing is the base over abrasive grain are fixed. The usual backings:
PAPERS CLOTHS paper A 75 gr/m2 light cloth 100 gr/m2 paper B 100 gr/m2 J cloth 160-200 gr/m2 paper C 125 gr/m2 x cloth 240-260 gr/m2 paper D 150 gr/m2 XX cloth 280 gr/m2 paper E 225 gr/m2 Y cloth 280 gr/m2 paper F 300 gr/m2
VULCANE FIBRE used mainly on 0,5 mm. and 0,8 mm. thickness. COMBINATION PAPER-CLOTH got by union between paper and cloth. ABRASIVE:is a mineral compound used as a cutting tool. The abrasives commonly used are corindon, silicon carbide and zircon oxide. CORIDON (AL2 O3), it shows in wite, rose and brown colour according to its composition. Recommended, wood, steel and ferric alloys working.
SILICON CARBIDE ( CARBORUNDUM ), CSI, recomende to glass, plastic, china and brass working.![]()
ZIRCON OXIDE, is a mineral of high toughness, used in high presure works, and stainless steel and tool steel. ADHESIVE, is the bond used to get backing and abrasive mineral united. Types used are: GLUE and RESINE. THE GLUE is a organic adhesive and recomended for hand sanding or portable machines. THE RESINE must be, ureic, phenolic, epoxi, etc, recomended in those operations where heat is generated a big ammount. THE COATED ABRASIVES acc. To their structure are:

CLOSE COAT
OPEN COAT
When grain cover all backing surface. High cutting power commonley used
in hard alloys. When grains cover 45 ÷ 65 % of surface.
Less cutting power, but clogging effect takes place later.
Recommended for wood and soft materials.
MANUFACTURING OF COATED ABRASIVES
B.M.A. ESPAÑOLA MANUFACTURERS in a continous way of 8 steps, backing, unwind brand printing, making, follows of abrasive spreading by means of gravity or electrostatic way, first dryer, sizing and final drying, followed by winding and ending the manufacturig through a stabilization. The manufacturing is fully controlled achieving the final product always inside the required standards.
